Starting July 1, Indian Railways has rolled out several important changes aimed at improving passenger convenience and transparency. Whether you frequently travel by train or book Tatkal tickets often, these updates are crucial for a smooth journey.
1. Aadhaar Now Mandatory for Tatkal Ticket Booking
From July 1, passengers must verify their Aadhaar card to book Tatkal tickets. This applies to both the IRCTC website and mobile app. Only verified users can proceed with Tatkal bookings. Additionally, from July 15, an OTP-based authentication system will also be introduced.
2. Agent Booking Restrictions
In a move to make Tatkal booking fairer, ticket agents will not be allowed to book tickets for the first 30 minutes after Tatkal booking starts.
-
For AC classes, booking starts at 10 AM, agents can book only after 10:30 AM.
-
For Sleeper class, booking starts at 11 AM, and agents must wait till 11:30 AM.
3. Reservation Chart Will Be Prepared Earlier
Previously, final reservation charts were made 4 hours before train departure. From now on, charts will be prepared 8 hours in advance. Passengers will get to know their seat confirmation status much earlier.
4. Faster Ticket Booking with Modern System
Indian Railways is upgrading its booking system to support up to 1.5 lakh tickets per minute, a big leap from the current 32,000 per minute. This will reduce delays and booking failures during peak hours.
5. Possible Reduction in Clerical Charges
The Railway Ministry is also considering lowering the clerical charge deducted during ticket cancellation and refunds, especially for waiting list or unused reserved tickets.
-
Current clerical charges: ₹60 for AC/Non-AC, ₹30 for Second Class.
These new changes are designed to create a smoother, more transparent experience for train travelers. Make sure your Aadhaar is linked and verified before booking Tatkal tickets. Stay updated and enjoy a hassle-free journey with Indian Railways!
