West Bengal minister Aroop Biswas has openly challenged the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), declaring that the political game in the 2026 Bengal Assembly Elections will be bigger and stronger than ever before. His fiery remarks came during a protest program at Mayo Road in Kolkata, organized to oppose the alleged insults against the Bengali language and the continuous “anti-Bengal” policies of the BJP.
Biswas strongly criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who in his Dum Dum rally recently claimed that the BJP would capture power in Bengal in 2026. Countering Modi’s message, Aroop Biswas said, “What were they saying? That 2026 will be a big game? We will play an even bigger game in 2026. Trinamool Congress was born to fight, and Bengal knows how to fight.”
Language Movement and Protest Against BJP
The protest at Mayo Road was part of Trinamool Congress’s ongoing dharna against what they describe as BJP’s continuous humiliation of the Bengali language and culture. As per party orders, every weekend, different TMC organizations and wings are participating in the demonstrations to highlight BJP’s attempts to divide Bengal.
Speaking from the stage, Aroop Biswas stressed that Bengal’s history of freedom struggle cannot be ignored. He said, “BJP does not know history. They should go to England and learn how Bengalis shed blood and sacrificed their lives to earn India’s independence. Today, when Bengali language and identity are insulted, the people of Bengal will never remain silent.”
Accusations Against BJP
Biswas accused the BJP of:
Attempting to erase Bengali identity by insulting the language.
Conspiring to exclude Bengal’s citizens from the voters’ list.
Depriving Bengal of its rightful share of resources and respect.
He declared that every such move will only strengthen Bengal’s resistance. “The more BJP attacks Bengal, the more Bengal will roar back,” Biswas stated.
Call for Unity Beyond Party Lines
Interestingly, Aroop Biswas urged people to rise above political divisions. According to him, this fight is not just about party politics but about protecting Bengali pride and the mother tongue. “In the interest of Bengal, everyone must stand with Mamata Banerjee’s movement. Whoever attacks the Bengali language must be opposed, no matter which party they belong to,” he added.
The Road to 2026
With the 2026 Bengal Assembly Elections approaching, the political battle between BJP and TMC is intensifying. While BJP is confident of making major inroads, Aroop Biswas’s strong counter shows that Trinamool Congress is ready for a bigger fight.
The minister’s words signal that the language issue and Bengali identity will play a key role in shaping the political narrative in the upcoming election.
