In a proud moment for Indian independent cinema, the short film Sundarbans Bela wins Best Short Film (Sundarbans Integrated) at the International Film Festival 2025 held in Kolkata. The event, hosted at Shaheed Surya Sen Bhavan, showcased 37 short films from across India and abroad.
Directed, written, and scripted by Biswajit Pal, the film tells the heartbreaking yet resilient story of the tiger widows of the Sundarbans — women who have lost their husbands to tiger attacks while working in the mangrove forests.
