A day after violent clashes rocked Kolkata’s Park Circus area, West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari delivered one of his strongest law-and-order messages since assuming office. Standing beside injured police personnel at the Kolkata Police South East Division office on Sunday, the Chief Minister warned that attacks on police in the name of religion or political protection would no longer be tolerated under the new administration.

The remarks came after a tense confrontation between police forces and a section of local residents during an operation to clear an unlawful gathering in Park Circus. According to police sources, stones and bricks were allegedly hurled at Kolkata Police personnel and central forces, leaving several officers injured.

Visibly aggressive in tone, Suvendu drew a sharp comparison with Kashmir while condemning the violence.

> “People have every democratic right to protest, but it has to happen within the framework of law. Gathering mobs and pelting stones while shouting religious slogans is unacceptable. This has stopped in Srinagar, and it will stop in Kolkata too,” the Chief Minister said.

The statement immediately triggered political reactions across Bengal, with supporters calling it a sign of a tougher administration while critics accused the government of using polarising rhetoric.

“Don’t Think This Is the Previous Government”

During his interaction with injured officers, Suvendu repeatedly stressed that the state police would no longer function under “political pressure” or “administrative paralysis.” He said the era of “tying the hands and feet of the police” was over.

> “If anyone thinks the previous government still exists and the old rules still apply, they are mistaken. No anti-national activity, no hooliganism, and no attack on police personnel will be tolerated,” he warned.

The Chief Minister further declared that merely arresting accused individuals would not be enough. His government, he claimed, would ensure that offenders are punished through the legal process.

The Park Circus violence has now become one of the first major law-and-order flashpoints for the newly formed BJP-led state administration. Political observers believe the government is attempting to send a direct message to both the bureaucracy and opposition groups that street-level unrest will be dealt with firmly.

“Zero Tolerance” Message to Police and Protesters

Suvendu also used the occasion to boost the morale of the state police force. Referring to provisions under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), he urged officers to act “fearlessly” without considering political affiliation, religion, community identity, or influence.

> “Do not look at who belongs to which party or religion. Follow the law fearlessly,” he told police personnel.

Echoing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s slogan of “Fear Out, Trust In,” the Chief Minister said Kolkata Police must regain the professional reputation it once enjoyed.

He then issued perhaps his toughest warning of the day:

> “Those involved in incidents like Park Circus should listen carefully — this must be the last such incident. If this happens again, no one will see a harsher Police Minister than me.”

The remark was interpreted as a signal that the administration may soon intensify police action in sensitive pockets across Kolkata and adjoining districts.

Corruption Files Being Reopened

Even as the Park Circus controversy dominated headlines, Suvendu simultaneously sharpened his attack on leaders associated with the previous regime. Addressing a public gathering in Bhabanipur on Monday evening, the Chief Minister announced that multiple corruption files linked to municipal bodies and influential political figures were being reopened.

> “One after another, corruption files are being opened. If guilt is proven, jail is certain,” he declared.

The Chief Minister claimed that a special cabinet committee had already been formed to investigate alleged large-scale corruption linked to the Kolkata Municipal Corporation and other state-level networks.

In a politically explosive speech, Suvendu publicly named several individuals and alleged details of their property holdings. Among those mentioned were local political strongmen, businessmen, and former power centres linked to the earlier administration.

He also targeted Abhishek Banerjee, alleging that multiple properties connected to him and his family were under scrutiny.

> “The people of Bengal cannot even imagine how badly the state was looted,” Suvendu claimed.

Though the Chief Minister did not present documentary evidence publicly during the speech, the allegations are expected to intensify the political confrontation between the BJP government and the opposition camp in the coming weeks.

Bhabanipur Victory Speech Turns Political

The Bhabanipur rally also carried symbolic political significance. Addressing residents after his electoral victory from the constituency, Suvendu said the people had “broken the arrogance” of former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

He claimed that BJP had performed strongly even in booths considered traditional strongholds of Trinamool Congress leaders.

> “People who cannot win their own booths have been rejected by Bengal,” he remarked, taking an indirect dig at former ruling party heavyweights.

The speech reflected the BJP government’s attempt to consolidate political momentum after the high-voltage Assembly election victory earlier this year.

Warning to Private Educational Institutions

Apart from politics and law-and-order issues, Suvendu also touched upon education policy during a felicitation ceremony for successful Madhyamik and Higher Secondary students.

While praising government schools, Ramakrishna Mission institutions, and social organisations working in education, the Chief Minister issued a cautionary message to private educational institutions over rising fees.

> “Middle-class families are struggling because of uncontrolled tuition and semester fees. Educational institutions should act responsibly,” he said.

Suvendu suggested that the government may consider regulatory intervention if private institutions fail to exercise restraint in fee structures.

The statement comes at a time when rising educational costs have become a major concern for urban middle-class families across West Bengal.

Political Temperature Rising in Bengal

With sharp warnings on law and order, aggressive anti-corruption messaging, and direct attacks on opposition figures, Suvendu Adhikari’s latest speeches indicate that Bengal politics is entering an intensely confrontational phase.

The Park Circus violence has now evolved beyond a local law-and-order issue into a larger political narrative about governance, policing, religious tensions, and administrative authority under the new regime.

For now, the Chief Minister’s message is unmistakably clear — the government intends to project a hardline image, both on the streets and inside the corridors of power.
